Katrina Wiedner completed her Master’s in Communication Design at Central Saint Martins, London, in 2008, exploring typographic narratives in literature for her final project. Post-graduation, she worked as a freelance art director in London, collaborating with clients such as The School of Life, Visual Editions, and Alain de Botton for Penguin Books. In 2009, her work was selected for the «Cute Puppies. Young Austrian Designers» exhibition at the MAK (Museum of Applied Arts Vienna), curated by Fabrica/Omar Vulpinari, and subsequently acquired for the museum’s permanent art book collection. Returning to Vienna in 2011, she continued as a freelance art director, working with major advertising agencies and clients including Red Bull Media and OMV.
In 2014, she founded onwhite studio, specialising in conceptualising and designing publications for the cultural and creative sector. The studio’s client list has grown to include the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Papanek Foundation, Mount Sinai Hospital/New York, the photographer Klaus Pichler, Living Architecture/London, European Association of Communications Agencies/Brussels, among many other national and international clients. Her work has garnered recognition, including the Staatspreis (Austrian State Prize) and «Schönste Bücher Österreichs» (Most Beautiful Books in Austria) award for «The Toolbox is You», and another «Schönste Bücher Österreichs» award for «Igniting Penguins». Publications designed by onwhite studio have been released by Penguin Books, Kettler, Scheidegger & Spiess, and Verlag für Moderne Kunst. Katrina Wiedner is mother of a daughter and lives and works in Vienna.
